Remove class not scrapped

WE refer to “Strengthen, not scrap, Year 6 Remove Classes” (The Star, April 1). The Examinations Syndicate wishes to clarify that there had been no proposal to replace Remove classes with retention in Year 6 for pupils who fail to obtain a minimum grade ‘C’ in Bahasa Malaysia in the UPSR.

Instead the UPSR will be improved to include School Based Assessment. The teaching and learning process will also be enhanced to ensure pupils who leave primary education have mastered the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic.
