Why are our universities so far behind?

AFTER reading your recent report “None make the cut”, I find it very disappointing that no Malaysian public universities made it into the top 200 of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2010-2011.

If Hong Kong University can make its way to number 21 followed by Tokyo University (26), the National University of Singapore (34) and Peking University (37), why can’t our public universities too?
