DR TAN Eng Bee brought up an important issue about sending students overseas, “Our varsities up to mark” (The Star, Nov 17). 

It is true we have a sizeable number of students studying overseas. Based on a report form the Institute for International Education (USA), 6.5% of our tertiary students are pursuing overseas studies, compared to about 1% in most countries.
