IT was a heart-pounding experience of a different kind for many Thais last weekend as astrologers predicted that a tragedy of untold proportions would befall the kingdom. 

March 12 was supposed to be doomsday, no thanks to a deity called Rahu who was crossing over to another zodiac sign and leaving a trail of destruction.
