PRISON officers at the Henry Gurney School shoulder a parent’s responsibilities.

“About 70% of the students are from broken families. The rest are also influenced by family issues – either their parents are too busy to look after them, or they are too poor that the child has to find means to survive,” said Jamil Razif, director of the Henry Gurney School in Telok Mas, Malacca. “Naturally, they will mix with the wrong group of friends who lead them to crime.”
