In his inauguration speech, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong promised to give Singaporeans enough space to engage in debate and have different opinions. Four days later, professors and students of theNational University of Singapore did just that when they discussed the leadership change. NILUKSI KOSWANAGE reports

THE university students who turned up to listen to the panel of professors discuss the topic “Singapore under Lee Hsien Loong: Continuity/Change” were not there to take the new prime minister’s pronouncements of an open society at face value.
