Paradigm shift needed for Indians

THERE has been too much politicking in the Indian-based parties to the detriment of the community.

A broad-minded approach – a paradigm shift – is required to repair the damage done. The solution should be based on a “one-size-fits-all” approach that would bring a collective bargaining power to all categories of people originating from the Indian sub-continent, including Sri Lanka.

I propose parties such as the MIC, IPF and PPP make way for a new party representing the various sub-communities.

The party may have a constitution with provisions to guarantee the inclusion of vice-presidents representing the Tamil, Punjabi, Sri Lankan, Indian Muslim, Malayalee and such.

We must have a clear vision and direction as we face the new challenges ahead. There is no room for sentiments if we are to succeed.

Therefore, in the spirit of brotherhood, I appeal to all to forget the past and have a give-and-take attitude. If there is a will there is a way.
