IT was a quaint feeling en route to my first Hari Raya open house in Bangkok. An hour-long taxi ride in paralysing traffic is not uncommon in Thailand’s bustling capital but on Wednesday evening, the trip conjured up images of the balik kampung crawl back home. 

The notions helped to blur the frustration of watching the baht rise on the meter as the taxi inched its way along the 16km journey from Bangna to the Malaysian Embassy in Sathorn.
