British Minister David Lammy was in Kuala Lumpur recently promoting the financial benefits of liberalisation in the legal services. Is the Malaysian Bar up to competing with foreign lawyers locally and overseas?SHAILA KOSHY reports

ALTHOUGH members of the Bar turned up in fairly large numbers to hear British Junior Minister David Lammy advocate “The Liberalisation and Modernisation of the Legal Systems,” it would be presumptuous to say they went away convinced that they should welcome foreign law firms with open arms.
