DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi hit the nail on the head when he said the country was facing a serious problem of slipshod maintenance of property and other assets, “Poor upkeep,” (The Star, Sept 24). 

Slipshod maintenance boils down to slipshod management. We have first-class policy-makers and leaders but third-class middle management.
