WE appreciate Dr Dorai Raja’s concern over the proper usage and safety of herbal products, “Herbal medicine must be prescribed”, (The Star, May 16) but we are concerned about the sweeping remark questioning the knowledge of pharmacists on herbal products, least to mention comparing with direct sellers.

Pharmacognosy and herbal medicine form an important component of pharmacy education. Pharmacists are already at the forefront of providing professional counselling to lay consumers who are indeed accosted with daily advertising and promotion of herbal medicines.
