THE spotlight on land-use degradation in Cameron Highlands is the latest episode in a continuing saga of environmental neglect and damage. And once again, it displays serious gaps and poor co-ordination at the different tiers of government administration. 

The reactions of the various authorities in this current episode have been quite revealing. Concern for disregard of the law has been expressed at every level of government from the Prime Minister to the mentri besar to the district officer.
