An election unlike any other

THE first announcement that the presidential election will take place “in just one round” came from the influential newspaper Kompas around 4.45pm West Indonesian time, on Wednesday, Feb 14, slightly less than four hours after the voting time of 1pm.

Its chief editor Sutta Dharmasaputra informed the world that based on a “quick count” carried out by Kompas’ Research and Development Unit (Litbang) on 2,000 sample polling stations (TPS) and with 70% of the votes counted, the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair had recorded 55.6% of the votes.
