NATIONAL sovereignty is proudly proclaimed everywhere, even where it is absent. The sovereignty of nation states lies in their independence acknowledged internationally.

The international community celebrates self-determination for once-colonised territories. Much as independence is a national matter, it acquires de facto legitimacy with an international consensus behind it.
