Malaysia’s democracy rests on due process 


THE recent raid on the wellness outlet in Chow Kit and the subsequent call by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to review existing legislation on deviant activities are deeply troubling.

Enforcement must never become a shortcut around due process. The police are duty-bound to know and follow the law before making mass arrests. Changing laws to cover procedural lapses is not reform; it is regression.
