Tunisia sets 3.1 pct economic growth target for 2027

TUNIS, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia aims to achieve an economic growth rate of 3.1 percent in 2027, Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh said Wednesday, according to L'Economiste Maghrebin, a leading Tunisian online economic magazine.

Abdelhafidh made the remarks during a hearing before the finance and budget committees of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People and the National Council of Regions and Districts, which was devoted to the draft economic budget for 2027.

To reach the target, the government plans to improve the performance of productive sectors and strengthen their contribution to job creation, he said.

The government intends to raise the investment rate to 16.4 percent of GDP, with a focus on supporting private investment and strengthening the investment capacity of state-owned enterprises, the minister said.

The government also plans to accelerate the energy transition and develop renewable energy, an approach aimed at reducing the country's energy dependence and easing pressure on external balances, he said.
