Spain's boat show brings together nautical community, focusing on innovation, sustainability

BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Barcelona International Boat Show has opened with the aim to bring together the nautical community and consolidate its position as Spain's leading maritime trade fair and one of Europe's most important.

From Oct. 14 to 18, the event hosts 170 exhibitors, over 300 brands, and more than 200 boats from a score of countries presenting their latest innovations marked by a focus on innovation and sustainability.

Apart from international brands such as France's Beneteau Group and the United States' Sea Ray, the show features Spanish boatbuilders such as De Antonio Yachts and Sasga Yachts, most of which are based in the Barcelona area and the Balearic Islands which boast a long seafaring tradition.

The Moll de la Fusta and Marina Port Vell quays in Barcelona also host a new area, named the Innovation Dock, showcasing fully electric boats, gadgets and innovative nautical solutions designed to reduce emissions and noise pollution.

"We're particularly proud to see the industry's leading brands reinforce their commitment to Barcelona, and we've introduced new areas and experiences that turn the show into the premier gathering place for anyone wishing to discover, purchase, or enjoy the nautical world," said Luis Conde, the fair's president.

According to the organizers, up to 20,000 visitors from around the world are expected to attend the five-day boat show.
