Flamengo holds Estudiantes to 0-0 first-leg draw

BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Estudiantes was held to a goalless home draw by defending champion Flamengo in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores semifinal on Thursday.

Both teams adopted a defensive mindset from the opening whistle, though the Argentine side looked more likely to score at Jorge Luis Hirschi Stadium in La Plata.

Flamengo goalkeeper Agustin Rossi made six saves while the Brazilian outfit, which controlled slightly more possession, failed to have a single shot on target.

The most controversial moment of the match came in the 63rd minute when Flamengo's Lucas Paqueta escaped with a yellow card after catching Ezequiel Piovi in the face with his forearm.

The decisive second leg will be played at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium next Thursday with the winner to face either Palmeiras or Fluminense in next month's final.
