China-EU trade and investment consultation yields consensus, bringing stability to business cooperation: vice minister

BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- The second meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism has produced a series of consensus and outcomes that provide stability and certainty for business cooperation between Chinese and European companies, a Chinese commerce official has said.

Ling Ji, vice minister of commerce and deputy China international trade representative, made the remarks while meeting with Tobias Meyer, CEO of Germany-based logistics giant DHL Group, on Thursday.

They exchanged views on DHL's development in China as well as China-Germany and China-EU economic and trade cooperation.

Ling said the Chinese government remains firmly committed to high-standard opening up and is accelerating the building of a unified national market with an efficient, modern logistics network, which will provide broader development opportunities for Chinese and foreign logistics companies, including DHL.

Meyer expressed confidence in the Chinese market, saying DHL is stepping up its investment in China and willing to contribute to the stable and healthy development of Germany-China and EU-China economic and trade relations.

Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic jointly chaired the second meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism last week in Beijing.

The two sides held pragmatic, productive discussions and agreed on a list of outcomes. The list set out 16 specific points of consensus covering trade and investment balance, export controls, intellectual property rights and World Trade Organization reform.

Latest official data showed China's rising appeal to global businesses. The country's foreign direct investment (FDI) equity stock reached 26.8 trillion yuan (about 3.99 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2025, ranking second globally and marking six consecutive years of growth.

High-tech industries have become a bright spot for foreign investment in China. FDI in the sector rose 35.1 percent year on year to 200.26 billion yuan in the first eight months of 2026.
