NEW YORK, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 253.38 points, or 0.49 percent, to 51,521.28. The S&P 500 added 44.98 points, or 0.58 percent, to 7,818.93. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 122.48 points, or 0.45 percent, to 27,599.79.
Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the green, with utilities and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by going up 3.01 percent and 1.39 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, health bucked the trend by dropping 0.16 percent.
