ANKARA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's solar and wind power generation reached a record high in August, the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said Tuesday, while renewable energy accounted for its highest share of total electricity generation since 2000 in the first eight months of the year.
The ministry's data showed that Türkiye's combined solar and wind power generation reached 9.9 billion kilowatt-hours in August, the highest monthly level on record.
According to the semi-official Anadolu Agency, renewable energy sources, including hydropower, wind and solar, generated a total of 149.8 billion kilowatt-hours during the January-August period, accounting for 60.3% of Türkiye's total electricity generation, the highest share recorded for the period since 2000.
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on social media platform X that Türkiye would continue to move steadily toward the goal of a "Fully Independent Türkiye in Energy."
