TRIPOLI, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed in a road accident near the eastern Libyan city of Tobruk, local media sources said Monday.
The victims included seven members of a Libyan family from the capital Tripoli and another Libyan man from Tobruk, according to the sources.
Libya has recorded a high number of fatal road accidents in recent years.
According to the Traffic Affairs and Licensing Department, 9,916 road accidents were recorded nationwide in 2024, resulting in 2,441 deaths and 4,139 serious injuries. In the first half of 2025 alone, 4,952 accidents were recorded, causing 1,279 deaths.
