LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) announced Friday that more than 1,600 applications had been received from people wishing to volunteer during the General Assembly in Hong Kong, China, in December.
"All key elements are progressing according to plan, with ANOC and the local organizing committee working closely to ensure a successful experience for the participating National Olympic Committees and other members of the Olympic Movement," ANOC said after a technical site visit to Hong Kong headed by Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg.
The ANOC General Assembly will take place from December 7-11, with a presidential election taking place at this year's meeting. Robin Mitchell of Fiji is the current ANOC president.
ANOC currently has 206 members, covering the five continents, and the member NOCs elect president every four years at the General Assembly.
