SARAJEVO, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Kvanj Tunnel on the Kvanj-Buna motorway section in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was holed through on Monday.

The Kvanj-Buna section, built by a consortium led by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), together with Azerbaijan's AzVirt and BiH's Hering, is part of the Pan-European Corridor Vc, a major route linking Central and Southeast Europe with the Mediterranean.

Nermin Niksic, prime minister of the Federation of BiH, said the breakthrough would advance Corridor Vc construction. Once the motorway completed, it will strengthen the Herzegovina region's links with other parts of BiH and access to European markets.

Andrijana Katic, minister of Transport and Communications of the Federation of BiH, spoke highly of the Chinese company's technical expertise and construction efficiency in an interview with Xinhua.

Chinese Ambassador to BiH Li Fan also said the successful tunnel breakthrough is not only a good example of trilateral cooperation among China, BiH, and the European Union, but also a vivid manifestation of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and BiH.

The Pan-European Corridor Vc is a major north-south multi-modal transport route connecting Budapest in Hungary through Croatia and BiH to the Adriatic Sea port of Ploce.
