LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sony and Marvel's superhero film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" maintained its reign at the North American box office, adding 18 million U.S. dollars during its sixth weekend of release for a domestic tally of 917.76 million dollars through Sunday, according to data released by measurement firm Rentrak.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is the first film since 2022's "Avatar: The Way of Water" to top the North American box office for six consecutive weekends. The film, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and starring Tom Holland in the titular role, has grossed 2.4 billion dollars worldwide.
Universal Pictures' epic action film "The Odyssey" has likewise demonstrated its staying power at the box office. The film came in second in its eighth weekend, grossing 13 million dollars and bringing its cumulative North American total to 584.8 million dollars.
Rounding out the top three, Ketchup Entertainment's live-action animated comedy "Coyote vs. Acme" earned 11.3 million dollars in its second weekend for a domestic cume of 33.8 million dollars.
