ALGIERS, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and two others injured Wednesday as wildfires continued to spread across northeastern Algeria, local authorities and media reported.
A 22-year-old woman and an eight-year-old boy died in a wildfire in the village of Bouhyane, Bejaia province. Their bodies were transferred to Souk El Tenine Hospital, according to local Soummam radio.
Separately, a wildfire in Mila province left one dead and two injured, according to local radio.
Several families were evacuated as a precaution in neighboring Jijel province after wildfires approached residential areas, Algeria's Civil Protection said.
The authority reported 37 active wildfires nationwide, including five in Jijel, but did not provide evacuation or displacement figures.
Algeria has been facing recurring wildfires during the summer, with at least six people killed in several provinces last month.
