NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Wednesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.19 percent to 100.014 at 3 p.m.
In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.1521 U.S. dollars from 1.1540 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3488 dollars from 1.3503 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 159.49 Japanese yen, higher than 159.26 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8137 Swiss francs from 0.8112 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.3947 Canadian dollars from 1.3920 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.5858 Swedish kronor from 9.5244 Swedish kronor.
