MUSCAT, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Oil pollution from the grounded vessel "Caroline Bezengi" off Oman's southern Dhofar Governorate has reached some beaches in Ras Madrakah, a coastal area in central Oman, Oman's Environment Authority said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the authority said monitoring tools, satellite imagery, and modern modelling systems are being used to track the spread of oil slicks and to forecast areas that could be affected.
Specialized teams are taking measures to limit the movement of the pollution, with priority being given to areas of high environmental sensitivity, it added.
According to media reports, the vessel "Caroline Bezengi" has been grounded since June after its crew reported an explosion on board.
On Monday, authorities said an oil slick from the grounded vessel had roughly affected 390 square km, extending northeast of the Al Hallaniyat Islands toward the mainland coast.
