U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 184.13 points, or 0.34 percent, to 53,791.85. The S&P 500 sank 24.91 points, or 0.32 percent, to 7,728.2. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 159.911 points, or 0.60 percent, to 26,445.446.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with communication services and real estate leading the laggards by going down 2.12 percent and 0.86 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, utilities and energy led the gainers by rising 1.11 percent and 1.06 percent, respectively.
