NEW YORK, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.04 percent to 99.858 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.1533 dollars from 1.1514 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.3452 dollars from 1.3431 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 157.66 Japanese yen, higher than 156.74 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar lost to 0.8092 Swiss francs from 0.8101 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.4066 Canadian dollars from 1.4045 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar decreased to 9.5192 Swedish kronor from 9.5557 Swedish kronor.
