SARAJEVO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Sarajevo International Airport has set a new record by handling 13,199 passengers in a single day, the highest daily total since the airport opened, local media outlet N1 reported on Tuesday.
The achievement comes amid sustained growth in air traffic. In July alone, the airport welcomed 284,301 passengers and recorded 2,254 aircraft movements, making it one of the busiest and most successful months in its history.
Airport authorities said the strong performance has continued throughout 2026, further cementing Sarajevo's position as Bosnia and Herzegovina's leading aviation hub and one of the fastest-growing airports in the region.
"Already at the beginning of July, we welcomed our millionth passenger of 2026, confirming robust growth in passenger traffic and rising interest in Sarajevo as both a tourist and business destination," the airport said in a statement.
Dino Selimovic, the airport's acting director, said the results reflect Sarajevo's growing appeal among tourists, business travellers and residents, with the city offering connections to an expanding network of European and global destinations.
Sarajevo's popularity has also been boosted by a packed cultural calendar. Over the weekend, renowned singer Dino Merlin attracted around 200,000 spectators with a three-day concert series, one of the city's largest music events in recent years. Adding to the momentum, the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival is scheduled to open on Aug. 14, accompanied by a range of related cultural events.
Selimovic expects passenger traffic to remain strong in the coming weeks, with the peak summer travel season and the city's vibrant cultural program continuing to drive visitor arrivals.
