MADRID, July 26 (Xinhua) -- A massive wildfire burning in central Spain has scorched about 50,000 hectares, becoming the largest wildfire in the country's recorded history, Spanish news agency EFE reported on Sunday.
The wildfire, which has spread across parts of Avila and the neighboring Madrid region, remained active on Sunday despite extensive firefighting efforts.
Thousands of firefighters, backed by Military Emergency Unit (UME), aircraft and helicopters, continued working to contain the blaze, the report said.
More than 100,000 people have been evacuated or ordered to remain indoors as multiple wildfires continue to burn across central Spain.
