"The Odyssey" tops North American box office for 2nd weekend in a row


LOS ANGELES, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Universal Pictures' epic action film "The Odyssey" easily stayed atop the North American box office chart in its second weekend with an estimated 87 million U.S. dollars, data from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

"The Odyssey" has earned 286.4 million dollars at the domestic box office and 353.2 million dollars internationally, for a worldwide total of 639.6 million dollars through Sunday.

Directed by Christopher Nolan and based on Homer's ancient Greek epic poem, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and chronicles his long and perilous journey home following the Trojan War.

Disney's musical adventure film "Moana" remained in second place in its third weekend with 10.5 million dollars. The live-action film has grossed 102.5 million dollars in North America and 228.2 million dollars worldwide.

In its sixth weekend, Disney and Pixar's animated film "Toy Story 5" rebounded to third place with 10 million dollars, bringing its North American cume to 448.6 million dollars and its worldwide total to 1.022 billion dollars.
