BERLIN, July 23 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed in a knife attack at a bank branch in the southern German city of Regensburg on Thursday, German news agency dpa reported, adding that the incident might involve a hostage-taking situation.
The victim was critically injured in the attack before being taken to hospital, where he later died. Police said the suspected attacker, believed to be a man acting alone, remained inside the bank with other people.
It was not immediately clear how many other people were inside the building or whether they were under the suspect's control, dpa quoted a police spokesperson as saying.
The motive for the attack was unknown, and the Police urged the public to avoid the area around the bank.
