U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, July 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 6.06 points, or 0.01 percent, to 52,218.58. The S&P 500 sank 10.24 points, or 0.14 percent, to 7,498.96. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 146.3 points, or 0.57 percent, to 25,690.9.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with utilities and materials leading the gainers by adding 2.29 percent and 1.45 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and consumer discretionary led the laggards by going down 1.29 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively.
