U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.27 percent to 100.763 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1438 dollars from 1.1466 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3470 dollars from 1.3536 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 162.39 Japanese yen, higher than 162.05 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.8089 Swiss francs from 0.8047 Swiss francs, and it added to 1.4048 Canadian dollars from 1.4043 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.6499 Swedish kronor from 9.5898 Swedish kronor.
