Three missing after migrant boat capsized near Greek-Turkish border

ATHENS, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Greek and Turkish rescue teams were searching for three people missing after a boat carrying migrants capsized near the maritime border between the Greek island of Samos and Türkiye, the Hellenic Coast Guard said on Saturday.

The alarm was raised late Friday after authorities received reports of a migrant boat in distress on the Turkish side of the Aegean Sea. Survivors said the Turkish Coast Guard rescued 34 people.

Turkey's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Ankara subsequently informed Greece's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre that at least three people were believed to remain missing.

Greek authorities immediately launched a large-scale search-and-rescue operation, deploying multiple coast guard vessels and a helicopter. Till press time, the search remained underway, the Hellenic Coast Guard said.
