348 migrants voluntarily return to home countries from Libya under IOM program

TRIPOLI, July 1 (Xinhua) -- A total of 348 migrants voluntarily returned from Libya to their home countries last week under the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Voluntary Humanitarian Return program, the IOM said on Wednesday.

Supported by the European Union (EU), the IOM facilitated two charter flights, repatriating 173 migrants to Bangladesh and 175 to Ghana from the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi and the Libyan capital Tripoli respectively, according to an IOM statement.

The organization said the move is part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts to provide durable solutions for stranded migrants in Libya.

The flights were funded by the EU under programs focused on migrant protection and migration management in Libya, the IOM added.
