Kyrgyzstan reports strong growth in banking sector assets, lending


BISHKEK, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Total assets of Kyrgyzstan's banking sector increased by 28.6 percent in the first four months of this year, reaching 1.56 trillion soms (about 17.8 billion U.S. dollars), according to data released by the country's national bank Thursday.

The banking sector's loan portfolio grew by 12.4 percent to 569.8 billion soms, while total deposits increased by 6.7 percent to 924.1 billion soms, the national bank said in a statement published on its official Telegram channel.

As of April 30, Kyrgyzstan had 24 commercial banks and 306 bank branches in operation nationwide. (1 U.S. dollar equals 87.50 Kyrgyzstani soms)
