Egypt's road deaths rise 10.8 pct to 5,829 in 2025

CAIRO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Road accidents claimed 5,829 lives across Egypt in 2025, up 10.8 percent year-on-year, the country's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said Thursday.

Cairo Governorate registered 779 deaths, the highest among all governorates, according to the agency's press release.

A total of 84,553 people were injured in road accidents nationwide in 2025, up 10.7 percent year-on-year, it added.

Road accidents claim thousands of lives in Egypt every year, mostly due to speeding, negligence of traffic rules, and poor road maintenance. The government has been upgrading the road network to ease congestion and reduce accidents.
