ABUJA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and 11 others injured when a group of unknown gunmen attacked a community in Nigeria's northern state of Kaduna, a national lawmaker said Wednesday.

Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South at the National Assembly, said on Wednesday that the attackers targeted and opened fire on some people mourning a deceased relative in the Ungwan Magaji community of the state's Kauru Local Government Area late Tuesday.

The official described the attack as "inhuman and unacceptable," saying the gunmen disappeared into a nearby bush after the dastardly act.

The motive of the attack is unknown, he added, urging security agencies to fish out the gunmen.
