Slovenian parliament confirms new gov't led by Janez Jansa

LJUBLJANA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's parliament on Thursday confirmed a new government led by Prime Minister Janez Jansa, marking a shift in power following the March 22 general election.

The 16-member cabinet won parliamentary approval by 49 votes to 30.

Addressing lawmakers ahead of the vote, Jansa said his government would "work for the whole of Slovenia and for all generations."

The new administration is backed by a five-party coalition led by Jansa's Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS). The coalition agreement, signed last month, also includes New Slovenia, the Slovenian People's Party, Fokus, and the Democrats, giving the bloc a combined 43 seats in the 90-member National Assembly.

Resni.ca, holding five seats in the parliament, did not join the coalition but has pledged support for the government on key votes, strengthening the ruling bloc's parliamentary backing.

Jansa returns to office for a fourth term as prime minister. He previously served from 2004 to 2008, from 2012 to 2013, and from 2020 to 2022.
