Man detained in Russia for allegedly passing data to New Zealand intelligence

MOSCOW, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a 55-year-old resident of Khabarovsk who was allegedly passing data to the intelligence services of New Zealand, the FSB said Monday in a statement.

According to the statement, the suspect established contact with representatives of the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service and transmitted sensitive information using foreign email services and messengers for financial gain.

The FSB has opened a criminal case, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Also on Friday last week, the FSB said it had arrested a Russian woman allegedly trying to place an explosive device under a security officer's car in Moscow under the instructions of Ukrainian handlers. The FSB has been consistently reporting that it has foiled plots against the Russian military personnel that it attributes to the Ukrainian intelligence service over the past few months.
