Multiple injured in lumber mill fire in U.S. state of Maine


SAN FRANCISCO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- An explosion and a raging fire at a lumber mill in Waldo County in the U.S. state of Maine injured multiple people on Friday, according to local authorities.

The explosion and fire occurred at the lumber mill in Searsmont, Waldo County officials and local emergency authorities said.

County officials said the incident was being handled as a "mass casualty" incident and the number of injuries was still being assessed.

Local media reported that at least 11 people, including firefighters, were injured.

A spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety said Maine State Police and state fire marshal investigators responded to the scene and the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
