Bulgarian college students compete for spots in "Chinese Bridge" global final


VELIKO TURNOVO, Bulgaria, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese-language speeches and a cultural knowledge quiz took center stage here on Sunday as nine Bulgarian university students competed in the final round of the 25th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Bulgaria.

Kalina Gerginova, a student at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, won the competition and earned the opportunity to represent Bulgaria in the global finals in China.

The contest was jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria, the Confucius Institute at the University of Veliko Turnovo, and the Confucius Institute in Sofia. It forms part of the annual "Chinese Bridge" competitions held across Bulgaria.

The secondary school-level competition was held at the same venue on Saturday. Nikol Nikolaeva Yalamova, a student at Private Secondary School Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi, claimed first prize with a score of 99 out of 100 points.
