U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, May 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 313.62 points, or 0.63 percent, to 49,596.97. The S&P 500 sank 28.01 points, or 0.38 percent, to 7,337.11. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 32.75 points, or 0.13 percent, to 25,806.20.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the red, with materials and energy leading the laggards by losing 1.83 percent and 1.78 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and communication services each gained 0.08 percent.
