U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, May 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.73 percent to 49,298.25. The S&P 500 added 0.81 percent to 7,259.22. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 1.03 percent to 25,326.13.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with materials and technology leading the gainers by rising 1.67 percent and 1.63 percent, respectively. Utilities posted the weakest growth, up by 0.01 percent.
