Azerbaijan sees 14.8 pct drop in foreign visitor spending in Q1


BAKU, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Foreign visitors to Azerbaijan spent around 512 million manats (about 301 million U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2026, down 14.8 percent year on year, according to the latest figures released by the country's State Statistical Committee.

Some 484,000 tourists and stateless persons from 172 countries visited the South Caucasus country in January-March, a 4.7 percent drop from a year earlier.

By country, visitors from Russia remained the largest spenders, accounting for 142.7 million manats, despite a 7.7 percent decline. Spending by tourists from Türkiye rose 6.4 percent to 68.2 million manats, while expenditures by visitors from India dropped sharply to 35 million manats, down nearly threefold year on year.

For visitors, transport was the largest spending category at 234.6 million manats, falling 15.6 percent. Car rental spending was the only category to grow, rising 4.1 percent to 802,000 manats. (1 U.S. dollar equals 1.70 manats)
