U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.15 percent to 98.639 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1714 dollars from 1.1720 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3518 dollars from 1.3534 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.55 Japanese yen, higher than 159.45 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.7893 Swiss francs from 0.7856 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3679 Canadian dollars from 1.3627 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 9.2716 Swedish kronor from 9.2247 Swedish kronor.
