"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" tops North American box office for 3rd consecutive weekend


LOS ANGELES, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Universal and Illumination's animated adventure film "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" continued to lead the North American box office for the third weekend in a row, bringing in an estimated 35 million U.S. dollars in ticket sales, according to data released Sunday by measurement firm Comscore.

The family-friendly blockbuster, based on Nintendo's Mario video game franchise, has already become the highest-grossing Hollywood release of the year. It has earned 355.2 million dollars in North America and 747.5 million dollars worldwide through Sunday.

Amazon MGM Studio's science fiction film "Project Hail Mary" remained in the second spot with 20.5 million dollars in its fifth weekend. The film's domestic total now stands at 285.1 million dollars, contributing to a global haul of 573.1 million dollars.

Rounding out the top three, Warner Bros.' horror film "Lee Cronin's The Mummy" opened this weekend to a debut of 13.5 million dollars.
